Can you drive for Uber or Lyft with a DUI?

If you are currently a Uber or a Lyft driver and have been arrested or charged with a DUI, you likely will be able to keep driving for the companies unless your license has bee suspended or if your convicted. You should fight the charges ASAP. You need to find a DUI attorney. You should also understand what a DUI attorney does.  If this is your first DUI you also should understand the process. If you want to be a driver for Uber or for Lyft and you currently have a drinking type charge on your background check do not fear. You could still get the thumbs up from these ride-share companies. With that said, it will be tough. Usually you have to wait at least 10 years for a DUI to not matter in order to drive for Uber and Lyft.

Uber and Lyft DUI Background Check’s:

Uber:  If you have a DUI in the past 10 years you can not drive for Uber. In some states this is reduced to 7 years.

Lyft: Same rules as Uber.

Both companies also do not hire convicted felons, some non-violent felons may be ok. Don’t expect any deviations.

Uber and Lyft DUI: What counts as a DUI?

You should expect that any DUI conviction will count against you with Uber and Lyft. If you were not convicted, you may have a better chance (as in you were acquitted, case was dismissed, charges dropped).

Uber and Lyft DUI: What If My DUI Get Removed From My Record?

If a DUI is removed from you background check in most places you would be good to go. However, the DMV will still have information of all your driving offenses. These two companies will likely get records from their as well and those will still count against you, but you will not know unless you try.
